KMnO4 is used to oxidize organic matter deposited on the bottom, reduce algae density, and for the treatment of some diseases related to bacteria, parasites in gills and fungi on shrimp and fish.

KMnO4 can be used to disinfect water, remove some inorganic substances, and remove toxins in water used in agriculture.

In the textile dyeing industry, it is a popular chemical for bleaching textile fabrics. It is also used a lot in medicine and life applications. Diluted KMnO4 solution is used to disinfect, clean, wash wounds, vegetables (although being non-harmful to many types of worm eggs), decolorize starch, fat, and acts as a gas absorber.

As KMnO4 contains toxicity, attention should be paid to the correct dose to ensure maximum effect, safety for health as well as for the environment.

For water deodorization, it is recommended to use a maximum of 20 mg/L. For bacteria disinfection, the recommended volume is 2-4 mg/L. The dose of disinfection should be based on the level of organic matter in the water.

It is necessary to calculate the amount of water in the pond to avoid waste while being sufficient to kill pathogens. KMnO4 can eliminate algae in the pond but may lead to oxygen reduction, to deal with this, use the fan after treatment. The treatment process can affect fish and shrimp, so the interval between 2 treatments should be at least 4 days, and it is also recommended to monitor and observe the health of fish and shrimp after treatment.
